What is Mantra? What are you doing when you chant the Mantra? What does Maharishi Mahesh Yogi teach when he teaches transcendental meditation? He tells them to repeat a certain word or a certain mantra to themselves: “ram, ram, ram, om, om, om”; anything, even your own name; even if you repeat “H 2 O, N 2 O, N 2 O”, this will also work - because the whole point is not in the sound and the word, the whole point is in the constant repetition of something, and then, thanks to the repetition itself, that something is happening. What is it?
When you constantly repeat a certain word, a certain rhythm is born, and this rhythm is monotonous - with the monotonous constant repetition of the same word, you begin to want to sleep. This is hypnosis, this is self-hypnosis; repetition of the Mantra is self-hypnosis. Your own sound monotonous rhythm intoxicates you.
This is good! There is nothing wrong; it gives deep refreshing sleep. If you are tired, then this is a good mental trick for ordinary sleep, because ordinary sleep is not as deep as Mantra sleep. Because during normal sleep, disturbing thoughts continue. But, if you continuously repeat a certain Mantra, then there will be nothing but the Mantra. And you will fall into a very, very deep sleep.
In yoga we have a special term for this; in Sanskrit, sleep is called nidra, and sleep caused by chanting a Mantra is called Tandra. This is a deeper sleep, but still a dream, it is called Yoga-Tandra, a sleep generated by yoga, mantra, chanting.
If your sleep is disturbed, then TM may help you. Maharishi's influence is so great in America because America is the country where more people suffer from sleep disorders than anywhere else. So many tranquilizers, insomnia pills are used; people have lost their natural ability to sleep - hence the influence of Maharishi. In India, no one cares about TM because people sleep so deeply that it is difficult to wake them up.
The mantra gives you a very subtle sleep; it is good in its own way, but don’t think that this is meditation, because you will be deceived. Don't think that this is meditation, it is just a mental tranquilizer and it is as chemical as any insomnia pill because sound changes the chemistry of your body, sound is a chemical part of your body.
There is no need to contact Maharishi Mahesh Yogi - every mother knows this. When the child is restless, she hums a lullaby, a lullaby is a mantra; it consists of two or three words, often meaningless because there is no need for content. She sits next to the child or holds him to her heart; the beating of the heart is also monotonous music; therefore, when the child is restless, the mother places his head on her chest and the beating of the heart becomes a mantra. The child is deceived and falls asleep. When the child has grown a little and cannot be deceived so easily, then the mother sings a lullaby; she endlessly repeats two or three simple monotonous words. Thanks to monotony, the child falls asleep - there is nothing wrong with that. It's a tranquilizer that's better than a chemical pill, but still a tranquilizer, a very subtle sound pill, but it affects your body chemistry.
Go to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and he will give you the technique without asking anything."
And he went there. Then he came back after three months. He said, “You suggested this to me and it worked. It’s great - I can sleep again!” And then I told him: “If you feel that just sleep is not enough, that you need to wake up, come to me. Because you can sleep now, so what? You will remain the same and every morning you will be in the same game of ambition. You may think that something good has happened, but only this has happened: now you will not be aware of the reasons. It will seem that something good has happened, but only one thing has happened: you have ceased to be aware of the reasons. The mantra drove them deep into the subconscious, and the possibility of transformation became distant. I can't give you better sleep. I wish I could give you a better awakening, a better awareness.
This is where the problem arises with Krishnamurti and with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi - they are two diametric opposites. Mahesh Yogi considers technique to be meditation: once you have mastered any technique - transcendental or any other - meditation occurs. This is both true and not true. Yes, because at the beginning a beginner must master some technique, because... his understanding is not yet ripe for the realization of the highest. Therefore, the technique can roughly be considered meditation. It is similar to how a child learns the alphabet: he is told that "m" is the same as "ball", the ball represents the letter "m". There is a ball connected to the letter “m” and the child learns. There is no connection between “m” and the ball: “m” can be represented by a thousand different objects with which it is in no way connected, but the child needs to be shown something, and the ball is nearby, he understands what a ball is, and not the letter “ m". Through the ball he will be able to understand the letter “m”, but this is the beginning, not the end.
Mahesh Yogi is good to start with to guide you, but if you get stuck in it, you are lost. He needs to be left, he is just a primary school, it is good in its time, but you cannot stay in a primary school all your life. It is not a university, it is not a universe, it must be passed through. This is the initial idea that meditation is a technique.
Krishnamurti is at the other pole, he says that there is no technique, no meditation. Meditation is simply consciousness without choice. Absolutely right! But he is trying to send you to university when you have not yet completed your primary school course. This is dangerous because he is talking about the Supreme. You won’t understand this, at your current stage it’s impossible, you’ll go crazy. If you listen to Krishnamurti, you are lost, because intellectually you will agree with him, but with your being you will not experience anything.
Many followers of Krishnamurti came to me. They say that with their minds they understand: “Of course, he is right that there is no technique and meditation is awareness, but what to do?” And I tell them that when they ask what they should do, it means they need technology. "What to do? You ask how to do it, you ask for technique. Krishnamurti will not help you. Better go to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.” But some are stuck on Krishnamurti, others on Mahesh Yogi.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is widely recognized as the foremost scientist in the field of consciousness and the greatest in modern world teacher. Maharishi restored the Vedic literature, which had existed in fragments for many thousands of years, and systematized it in the form of a complete science of consciousness in all its theoretical and practical significance. Maharishi Vedic Science and Technology reveals the full potential of natural law in human consciousness as the basis for improvement in all areas of life.
Transcendental Meditation, a subjective technique of Maharishi Vedic science and technology, is the most widespread and widely researched personal development program in the world.
At the beginning of his life, Maharishi studied physics and chemistry at the University of Allahabad. In addition to his studies, he was very interested in spiritual teachers and, having heard that Brahamanda Saraswati was in Allahabad, he came to the house where the teacher, Guru Dev Brahamanda Saraswati, was staying. After visiting him several times, Maharishi decided to become his follower. Guru Dev agreed on one condition: that he first complete his studies.
Maharishi graduated from university and then spent twenty years studying and working with Guru Dev Brahamanda Saraswati. During this time, Maharishi became his closest disciple and inherited the wisdom and knowledge of his teachings. In 1953, after serving under Guru Dev for twelve years, Maharishi retired to the caves of the “Valley of Saints” in Uttarkashi, Himalayas. He didn't have any special plans at that time. He just wanted to be alone and quiet. But after two years of solitude, in 1955, he felt called to return to the world.
The hermits tried to convince him. In their opinion, the world around them was something dirty, and it made no sense for an enlightened person to come into contact with it. But Maharishi's desire grew, and he finally left the peace and solitude of his mountain cave and headed to the south of India. The first place the Maharishi arrived when he left the Himalayas was the state of Kerala in southern India.
He did not specifically prepare to perform there, he was simply called to visit this place. A few days after his arrival, a man approached him who recognized him as a monk from the North and offered to give a weekly series of lectures - he agreed. The interest in his first lectures was already so great that by the seventh lecture the hall was overcrowded. He was immediately invited to lecture in other cities and eventually spent six months lecturing and teaching TM throughout the state.
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi and Transcendental Meditation
As a result, his first book, Lighthouse Light of the Himalayas, was published. The book attempts to show in a concise manner how Maharishi revives the true meaning of the Vedic sacred texts through Transcendental Meditation. After leaving Kerala, he traveled all over India for 2 years, introducing people to TM.
He and his technique quickly gained recognition among the people, which inspired them to approach the Maharishi with a request to create a worldwide movement of spiritual revival. And in 1958 this Movement was organized, laying a solid foundation for the further dissemination of Vedic knowledge.
In 1958 he headed East, visited Singapore and Hawaii, and in early 1959 came to California. There he spent several months teaching TM, and organized a permanent center for the Movement, then sent it to New York, and from there to Europe. By the end of the year it turned out that many people were interested in TM. Maharishi realized that in the future he would not be able to teach TM to everyone who wanted it, and he decided to organize the training of TM teachers.
Initially, the training took place in India, in the small town of Rishikesh, in the place where the Ganges descends from the Himalayas. This is the place where many Hindus begin their pilgrimage. Just outside the city, on a steep hill covered with forest, Maharishi built a Vedic center (“ashram”). There, future TM teachers mastered the skill of teaching. The first intake consisted of about thirty students, but by 1960 their number had increased to two hundred. Faced with a growing need for teachers, he opened training courses in Europe, where he was able to provide training to a thousand or more people.

While Mahesh Prasad Varma was working as a clerk in Guru Dev's ashram, he had the title Bal Brahmachari Mahesh(Bal Brahmachari Mahesh) - the title of a modest unmarried student. After the death of Guru Dev (he was poisoned), Mahesh will independently change his title to Maharshi Bala Brahmachari Mahesh Yogi Maharaj (Maharshi Bala Brahmachari Mahesh Yogi Maharaj). For an orthodox Hindu, this new title is something of a mixture of the blasphemous, the ridiculous and the surreal:
Maharshi (Maharshi) Maha " Maha"("great") and Rishi" rishi" ("seer" or "seer"), is a title awarded out of respect to the most eminent of the Indian saints: Veda Vyasa, Patanjali, Shankara. No wandering teacher having any business, cannot give himself such a title.
Bala (Bala) means - refers to the goddess whom this person has chosen as his object of worship, in this case it is Tantric Lalita or the sexual aspect of Shakti.
Brahmachari (Brahmachari) means that this student is unmarried, but not a monk, as Mahesh will later claim. Only sannyasis who take the oath and wear the orange robe can legitimately be called monks. And only sannyasins can become swamis and teach representatives of the Shankara tradition. Mahesh Varma (Maharishi) will never be able to teach in the name of Shankar because his low caste by birth does not give him the right to follow this tradition.
Mahesh (Mahesh) is both his name and the name of the god Shiva, meaning destroyer (of ignorance)
Yogi (Yogi) is not actually a title, but simply an indication that he is united or enlightened. Not given as a reward by any Indian teacher or spiritual person, this instruction is considered mere boasting in Indian spiritual circles.
Maharaj (Maharaj) or Great King (of Yogis), is a title of Shiva added to the names of great saints.
Then Mahesh Varma took a shortened version for himself - Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. Please note that the original spelling is " Maharishi"must be" Maharshi". Traditionally, the vibrating "r" in Sanskrit is considered a vowel and the title "great seer" was pronounced without the first letter "i". Later, members of the TM movement began to say that the name was changed for easier pronunciation to English language. This seems highly unlikely. English-speaking followers of some modern figures call this the highest title, for example Ramana Maharshi ( Ramana Maharshi ), had no problems with traditionally accepted pronunciation and spelling. It is much more likely that the Maharishi changed the spelling of his title in order to use it as brand, which coincides with his subsequent actions when he changed the traditional "siddhi" to "sidhi", or "yajna" to "yagya".
The colored form it takes in America is: Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is more than curious. Imagine a tent revivalist stumbling in the American backyard, preaching, converting and collecting money, called the Supreme Prophet, Holy Jesus Christ. This is a close correspondence in English to the name Great Seer Shiva, the Enlightened One, later shortened to Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Mahesh Prasad Varma (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi), was born on October 18, 1911 in the Indian city of Uttar Kashi. His father was a tax collector and belonged to the Kaaystha caste. As you know, in India, from time immemorial, society has been divided into castes. It is impossible to move from one caste to another. Every person should have the occupation assigned to him according to his caste. For example, only people from the Brahmin caste and no one else have the right to be a guru, to preach the traditions and knowledge of the Shankaracharyas (a system of philosophy and religion generally accepted in India). Mahesh Varma, as already said from the Kaaistha caste, is lower than a Brahmin and according to the rules of “Varna” (caste system) cannot teach others. However, pride and vanity forced him to violate the ancient traditions and the will of his spiritual teachers.
After graduating from Allahabad University in 1942 with a bachelor's degree in physics, he went to work at a factory, but soon became interested in ancient Indian literature and tried to study Sanskrit. In his spiritual quest, Mahesh became a disciple of the Indian religious preacher Swami Brahmananda Saraswati, also known as Sri Guru Deva,
Guru Dev had the title of Shankaracharya Jyotir Math (i.e., representative of the disciple chain of Adi Shankara, abbot of the Jyotir Math monastery located in Northern India). Mahesh worked at Guru Dev Ashram for 13 years, working as a scribe and translator. Then he became a sadhu. However, he never practiced yoga. . In 1954, Guru Dev was allegedly poisoned. It is not known who gave this poison, but it is certain that there was poison in his body. When Guru Dev's body became unwell, he was asked to go to Kashi for treatment. But Mahesh forced him to go not there, but to Calcutta so that he could give a speech. There the great Guru Dev died.Prasad Mahesh Varma (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) claims that he was the best student of Guru Dev, but, apart from his own words, this is not confirmed by anyone - as well as the fact that before his death, Guru Dev allegedly called him to himself and instructed him to invent a new way of meditation, which would be effective and accessible to any person, so that any person could apply it to himself and achieve “consciousness of absolute being.” This is, to put it mildly, not true. Mahesh (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) can, of course, go against the rules of “Sanatan Dharma” and start preaching, something that he should not do, since he is not a Brahmin. He can even pervert Vedic traditions and invent his own “new path”, who will stop him? But all this is already called sectarianism, not even a schism, but simply sectarianism. Sri Guru Dev could not in any way entrust Mahesh (Maharishi Mahesh Yogi) to preach anything, because firstly, Sri Guru Dev was a true Shankaracharya and he already knew that only a Brahmin could preach, which Mahesh was not. Secondly, Sri Guru Dev, who is the Shankaracharya, whose sacred duty was to preserve the main systems of Hindu philosophy and religion, could not instruct a clerk, the son of a tax collector, to destroy or correct these same philosophy and religion and invent something new, adapting the Vedas to commerce. supposedly to meet modern requirements.
Biography
There is very little information about the early life of Mahesh Prasad Varma. In his youth, Mahesh studied physics at the University of Allahabad. In addition to studying, he worked in factories for some time.
He became interested in the activities of spiritual teachers and when Guru Dev Brahamanda Saraswati visited Allahabad, he became his follower. After graduating from university, Mahesh spent thirteen years with Guru Dev Brahamand Saraswati in the Himalayas, becoming his closest disciple.
In 1953, after serving under Guru Dev for thirteen years, Maharishi retired to the caves of the “Valley of Saints” in Uttarkashi (Himalayas). But after two years of seclusion, in 1955, he returned to the world and settled in the state of Kerala in southern India. Here they were delighted to see a monk from the North and invited him to give a week-long series of lectures on the knowledge gained in the Himalayas. The interest in his first lectures was so great that by the seventh lecture the hall was packed, and for six months he lectured in various cities throughout the state. The result of this activity was his first book, “The Light of the Himalaya Beacon,” in which Maharishi said that through Transcendental Meditation the true meaning of the Vedic sacred texts is revived.
In 1957, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi introduced his The theory of transcendental meditation (TM) at the Festival of Spiritual Lights, and then spread it through an organization called the Spiritual Revival Movement. "Spiritual Regeneration Movement" ).
Maharishi and the TM technique quickly gained recognition among people, which inspired them to approach him with a request to create a worldwide movement of spiritual revival. And in 1958 such a movement was organized, laying a solid foundation for the further dissemination of Vedic knowledge.
In 1958, Maharishi traveled to the East, visited Singapore and Hawaii, and at the beginning of 1959 he came to California, where he taught TM to those who wished for several months. The enormous interest in Vedic knowledge in the United States made it possible to organize a permanent center of the Movement. The same thing happened in New York and in Europe. And in the 1960s, the hippie movement also made a major contribution to the spread of TM in the United States.
In the end, Maharishi realized that he could no longer teach TM to everyone who wanted it, and decided to start training TM teachers. In the early 1970s, the Maharishi launched the "World Plan" for the spread of TM, which envisaged the creation of one TM training center for every million people on the planet. He managed to create many similar centers at that time, and by the beginning of the 21st century there were 5 million people in the world who officially studied TM techniques in training centers. In Russia, the mass passion for meditation and, in particular, transcendental meditation occurred in the late 1980s - early 1990s.
Spreading the Teaching
Initially, teacher training took place in India, in the small town of Rishikesh, in the place where the Ganges descends from the Himalayas. This is the place where many Hindus begin their pilgrimage. Here outside the city, on a steep hill covered with forest, Maharishi built Vedic center "Ashram". There, future TM teachers mastered the skill of teaching. The first intake was about thirty students, but by 1960 their number had increased to two hundred. Faced with a growing need for teachers, the Maharishi also opened teacher training courses in Europe, where he was able to train a thousand or more people.
In 1960, Maharishi gave his organization a new name - International Meditation Society. And in 1963 it was created and International Student Meditation Society, since the activities of Maharishi aroused great interest in student and youth circles. At the same time, Western scientists began to show great interest in the physiological and psychological effects of TM, as a result of which TM gained recognition in scientific circles.
All this led to the creation Maharishi International University (MIU), in which education is based on the Science of Creative Intelligence (SCI), a teaching that synthesizes the study of TM with traditional academic disciplines. The purpose of this new science- application of the benefits and advantages of TM for the prosperity of people in all aspects of life.
By 1965, through his centers, Maharishi had already trained about ten thousand TM teachers, the number of TM trained in America alone amounted to 550,000 people, and throughout the world - more than 1 million, and the growth of the movement was already 35,000 people per month.
The huge interest in TM turned out to be characteristic not only of America and Europe. TMs are now being taught in almost every country in the world, but the greatest interest in the teaching is in India.
Today Maharishi Open University broadcasts its lectures via satellite television to 120 countries in 21 languages. The university's programs are designed for people of all ages. Their task is to revive the qualities of pure knowledge and infinite organizing power in the consciousness of people, which should serve as the basis for perfection in the personal life of each person and the basis for life in harmony throughout the entire Earth.
Today, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi is widely recognized as an outstanding scientist in the field of human consciousness and one of the most famous gurus in the modern world. Maharishi restored the Vedic literature, which had existed in fragments for many thousands of years, and systematized it in the form of a complete science of consciousness in the fullness of its theoretical and practical significance.
The Science of the Creative Mind
The science of the creative mind is the theory on which Transcendental Meditation, developed by Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, is based. In fact, it is a modernized re-statement of the fundamental teachings of Advaita Vedanta Shankaracharya, in which Sanskrit terms are replaced with modern scientific ones. Thanks to this presentation, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi succeeded in grafting a technology originally developed by Hindus and for Hindus onto the soil of a skeptical Western culture.
States of consciousness
Along with states of consciousness known from psychology such as “waking”, “sleep without dreams” and “sleep with dreams”, Maharishi speaks of the existence of additional four states that are still unknown to science or unrecognized by it. He calls them: "transcendental consciousness", "cosmic consciousness", "divine consciousness" and "Unity". At the basis of these seven states is the “creative mind”, thanks to which they all become possible.
Transcendental consciousness
Maharishi, teaches that "duality is the main cause of suffering." His technique for overcoming this duality begins with the practice of dhyana, which he called Transcendental Meditation. Maharishi refers to the increasing "enchantment" as the mind is allowed to follow its natural tendency to "enter into the realm of greater happiness" by immersing itself in more subtle states of thought through mantra. He describes increasingly subtle levels of one-pointedness as increasing bliss and greatness.
The following often quoted description of the nature of TM, given by the Maharishi, well describes the narrowing of attention on the object of meditation and moving beyond that object. Transcendental meditation, he says, results in "...a turning of attention to ever more subtle levels of thought, until the mind transcends the subtlest state of thought and reaches the very source of thought...". It is said that bliss comes with peace of mind. The purpose of the mantra is what Maharishi calls "transcendental consciousness": when the mind "attains the direct experience of bliss, it loses all contact with the external world and is content with the state of transcendental Consciousness-Bliss."
Cosmic consciousness
Following “transcendental consciousness” comes “cosmic consciousness,” which Maharishi refers to as the introduction of dhyana or transcendental meditation into the waking and sleeping states. This infusion is accomplished by alternating periods of normal activity with periods of meditation. According to Maharishi, “true virtue is acquired only through repeated entries into samadhi,” and purification is not the cause, but, on the contrary, the consequence of transcendence. As a result, Maharishi denies the need to impose a vow of renunciation on himself, arguing that regular practice will gradually remove all obstacles and obscurations from life.
Maharishi describes the transition from transcendental to cosmic consciousness: “From this state of pure Being, the mind returns again to mental experiences of the relative world... With practice, the ability of the mind to retain its inherent nature while perceiving objects through the senses increases. When this happens, the mind and its essential nature become one, and the mind acquires the ability to hold its true nature (Being) while immersed in thinking, talking or activity."
This becomes possible because a person who is in a state of “cosmic consciousness” has already experienced transitions to a state of dhyana, in which all sense of perception disappears. In the waking state he remains somewhat detached from the sense of perception, although he is more sensitive to both his internal thoughts and external events. Maharishi describes this as a state in which two different levels of organization function nervous system- transcendental consciousness and wakefulness. Usually these levels suppress each other, but here they function side by side, maintaining their unique features. “Silence,” says the Maharishi, “is experienced together with activity, but nevertheless separate from it.”
If before a person acquires the state of “cosmic consciousness”, the effects of everyday meditation wear off over time, and the meditator must constantly renew them with regular practice, then in the state of “cosmic consciousness” these effects are constantly present. The meditator discovers that such a state is present as “pure consciousness” under any circumstances and during any activity. According to Maharishi, “living in cosmic consciousness is effortless...an enlightened person lives life to the fullest. His actions, free from desires, serve only what the current moment in time requires. He no longer has a personal interest in acquisitions. He is absorbed in the fulfillment of the cosmic purpose, and therefore his actions are guided by nature. That is why he does not need to worry about his needs. His needs are the needs of nature, which takes care of their fulfillment, while he himself is an instrument in the hands of the Divine.”
Divine Consciousness
A further step in advancement is “divine consciousness”, which arises as a result of service while abiding in “cosmic consciousness”. In "divine consciousness" the meditator perceives all things as sacred: "everything is naturally experienced in the awareness of God." At first, says the Maharishi, this state of unity of dissimilarities may be overwhelming and the meditator may become deeply absorbed in it, but gradually, the “divine consciousness” begins to merge with other activities, just as previously the “transcendental consciousness” was mixed with normal ones. states to become "cosmic consciousness".
In "divine consciousness" the meditator gives up his individuality. This is the "purest state" in which the meditator overcomes the slightest trace of any impurity in thought and deed: he now exists in immediate harmony with nature and the Divine. Achieving "divine consciousness", according to the Maharishi, leads to a transformation in which one becomes aware of God in all aspects of creation.
Unity
The next stage of advancement for a TM adherent may be a state called “oneness.” Consciousness at this stage becomes so refined that the meditator perceives all things as they are, without any illusions.
Meaning
Maharishi Mahesh Yogi
Founded the Transcendental Meditation program and created the worldwide Spiritual Revival Movement (1957).
He initiated research in the field of consciousness and outlined the theory of seven states of consciousness (1957-1967).
In 1968, members of the legendary group The Beatles became Maharishi's students. But, subsequently, they became disillusioned with the Guru and his teachings. After visiting the Guru, John Lennon wrote the sarcastic song Sexy Sadie. The reason for writing was the quickly spreading rumor that during an individual session the Maharishi attempted to rape actress Mia Farrow. Regarding this incident, Cynthia Lennon, the wife of John Lennon, who visited the Maharishi's ashram in India with the Beatles, wrote in her memoirs ("A Twist of Lennon", 1978): "One after another, blissfully happier days fled, until at our doorstep no trouble came. I was terribly worried because it all seemed wildly absurd to me: some rumors, unproven actions, unconfirmed statements. The finger of suspicion was directed at the man who had given us so much in so many ways about Maharishi. Alexis and one girl, also a student of meditation, began to sow seeds of doubt in open souls. Open because meditation, practiced over a long period, makes the meditator extremely susceptible to any open and strong "vibrations". His psyche becomes sensitively tuned. Alexis's statements on how Maharishi treated a certain lady badly, and what a scoundrel he turned out to be, fell on receptive soil and began to gain strength, and, I must emphasize this, without any evidence or evidence. It was clear to me why Alex did this: Maharishi forced him out of the heart of the Beatles and he took revenge on him for this. Wanting to get out of the game, he dragged the Beatles along with him. George and John were in such a state of mind that the rumor started by Alex plunged them into strange confusion. They were unable to objectively understand this matter. There was a heated debate all night about whether the accusations of Alexis and that girl could be believed. One meditator in particular did not trust Alexis. He said that he saw Alexis in that girl’s room under rather compromising circumstances. He believed that Alexis was having an unhealthy influence on the girl. “Actually, there’s something wrong here,” he said. I thought so too. The result of the night showdown was the victory of Alexis. In my opinion, it was a great misfortune. The confusion caused by the false accusations gave rise to mistrust and anger. The atmosphere was electric. The fog of an unreal situation enveloped us again, and it was impossible to fight it. Everything happened so quickly and with such precision that the situation was irreversible. Maharishi was accused and sentenced without being able to defend himself. All the bad thoughts rushed back, faith was undermined, and the next morning, when we had not yet woken up, the wheel started turning: Alexis ordered a taxi that would take us to the airport. That's how quickly things went wrong. When John and George came to the Maharishi and told him that they were leaving, the Teacher was sincerely upset. The accusations were based on unverified rumors, the Beatles were shocked and angry at what they were told, but they did not give the Maharishi a chance to defend himself. When he asked why they were leaving him, they replied: “If you have cosmic consciousness as you claim, then you must know why we are leaving.” With these words they left him and returned to the refectory, where we were all waiting for them. I have never packed my things with such a heavy heart. I felt: what we are doing is not the same, not at all. How can you judge a person who did not do anything bad to us, but on the contrary, gave us so much happiness... But what happened just before leaving turned my whole soul out. While waiting for a taxi, we sat at the dining table and talked in whispers. Everyone was clearly tormented by remorse. The Maharishi emerged from his stone tent and positioned himself less than a hundred yards from our agitated dissident group. One of his faithful students came up to us and said that the Teacher invites us all to calmly talk about everything. He added that Maharishi was very upset and wanted to settle everything and convince us to stay. I almost burst into tears. It was so heartbreakingly touching. The Maharishi, all alone, sat under a small thatched canopy and looked like a biblical patriarch, alone in his faith. His power was taken away by making unsubstantiated accusations, and apparently no one was willing to respond to his call for reason and humanity. The guys were adamant. They had already made their decision, burned their bridges behind them, and now nothing could convince them. They stood up and walked past him in a single file without saying a word. This picture will never be erased from my memory. It may sound melodramatic, but at that moment I had a clear feeling that here, in the mountains of India, I was seeing a repetition of the biblical scene: the disciples were denying Jesus. This does not mean that I equate Maharishi with Jesus, but for me he was a seeker who dreamed of better world, and here we are, a group of people who have a huge influence on the youth of the world, maybe undoing all the good that he did. The only person other than the Beatles to whom young people listened was now vilified and henceforth retreated into the shadows." Actress Mia Farrow also denies this incident in her autobiography. Subsequently, the group members apologized to the Maharishi for unfounded suspicions and took part in charity events in support of Transcendental Meditation. In connection with the death of the Maharishi in 2007, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr stated the following: “Although I am deeply saddened by his passing, my memories of him will always be bright,” McCartney said. “He was a great man.” working tirelessly for people around the world and for unity. I will never forget the dedication he wrote in the book he once gave me. It says: “Light, bliss, consciousness,” and these words mean a lot to me. I will miss him, but I will always think of him with a smile." "One of the wise men I met in my life was the Maharishi," Starr said. "I was always impressed by his joy, and I truly believe that he knows where he's going."

Maharishi
Mach means great, Rishi - initiate, seer.
Exactly one hundred years ago, on January 12, in the Indian city of Rishikesh, a man was born who was destined to become one of the most famous teachers of Eastern philosophy and meditation. The founder of transcendental meditation and trainer of flying yogis, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, was also a philosopher whose wisdom was listened to by millions of people, including Hollywood stars and members of the Beatles. The most famous of his sayings are in the RG collection.
1."When a person speaks ill of others, he participates in the sins of those about whom he speaks. If you have not spoken out about any evil of others, then you do not have any evil in your heart. This is the measure."
The Maharishi's most famous students were members of the famous "Fab Four". The Beatles diligently studied mantras and yoga poses at the guru's residence in Rishikesh. And then the friendship came to an end. There are several versions of the disorder. The main one concerned the Maharishi’s alleged harassment of film actress Mia Farrow. The incident was never documented, and Farrow herself always spoke of the teacher with respect. However, the musicians defiantly left the Maharishi; later, in her memoirs, Cynthia Lennon will compare this episode of the Beatles’ biography with the disciples’ renunciation of Jesus. Another version was put forward by the guru's colleagues. According to her, Maharishi simply did not like the Fab Four's systematic use of marijuana, and he showed them the door.
Maharishi's plans for creating world peace concerned not only individuals, but also entire states. In 2004, in an interview with a journalist from the Al-Arabiya TV channel, he shared a formula for how to establish harmony in the Middle East. To do this, according to the guru, it is necessary to train eight thousand people in the practice of meditation - "the square root of one percent of the population" - who can "purify the collective consciousness" on the principle of how light dispels darkness. The correspondent reasonably pointed out to the guru that many residents of Palestine or Iraq have lost loved ones in conflicts, and it will not be easy for them to achieve harmony. “What he has lost, he has already lost. Life will end in any case. The only way is to achieve indestructibility,” replied the Maharishi.
3. "The philosophy of life is this: Life is not struggle, not tension. Life should not be suffering. Life is Bliss, it is eternal wisdom, eternal existence."
The basis of the teachings of Maharishi Mahesh Yogi was transcendental meditation (TM). A very simple form of meditation that does not require special conditions or conditions, accompanied by the recitation of mantras. Maharishi himself called it “a means of doing what one wants to do, in the best way, in the right way, with maximum results.” Followers of the teaching believe that TM relieves stress and improves mental health. in turn, allows you to restore the physical. In some countries, transcendental meditation has even been included in the school curriculum to improve children's academic performance. Some researchers consider it pseudoscientific, or even classify it as a totalitarian sect. Nevertheless, TM has many followers, including among famous and rich people - from the Beatles to film director David Lynch.
4. "We must choose something great and make it happen. Never think about failure, because we get in the future what we think about now."
In creating his teaching, Maharishi traveled a long way from a hermit's cave in the Himalayas to the International Society with several thousand trained teachers of transcendental meditation. The guru's followers not only meditated, but also flew. Well, at least that's what they said. Yogis sitting in the lotus position rose above the ground for some time. In 1986, a competition of flying yogis in the disciplines of “flight height”, “flight length” and “speed flight” was even held in Washington, DC. Apparently Maharishi's advice not to think about failure inspired them.
5. "The result of what we have done comes to us whenever it comes - today or tomorrow, after a hundred years or after a hundred lives. This is our karma."
Maharishi died in 2008 in Holland. His ashram in Rishikesh still stands, although largely abandoned. In addition to spiders and monkeys, tourists continue to visit it - self-improving individuals, seekers of inscriptions “Lennon was here” and simply lovers of the exotic. Rishikesh itself is unofficially recognized as the yoga capital of the world. They say that the whole city is saturated with positive energy due to the numerous pilgrims. The Maharishi is remembered here, but according to travelers, Hindus have ambivalent attitudes towards the gurus. Maharishi's teachings, Transcendental Meditation, have millions of followers around the world and are a registered trademark.
