1834 - The Pedagogical Institute - the future NPU named after M.P. Drahomanov - began its work as a structural unit of the University of St. Vladimir.
1920 - The Administration of Higher Schools in Kyiv decided to create the Kiev Higher Institute of Public Education on the basis of the Kiev University of St. Vladimir and the Higher Women's Courses.

Institute of Informatics
Director - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Anatoly Petrovich Kudin. The historical origins of the Institute of Informatics reach the end of the 50s - the beginning of the 60s, when the study of elements of cybernetics and the fundamentals of programming began in higher educational institutions of Ukraine. As an independent division, the Institute was created in 2008 as a result of the reorganization of the Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Informatics Education. In 2003, the Institute of Correctional Pedagogy and Psychology was created on its basis, which included 5 departments: speech therapy, correctional psychopedagogy, deaf pedagogy, typhlopedagogy, special psychology and medicine. The Institute operates two scientific and methodological centers: rehabilitation of the disabled and inclusive education.

Director - Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Savelyev Vladimir Leonidovich. The Institute was established as an independent division in 2008. It consists of four departments: department for coordination of master's training; Department of Postgraduate and Doctoral Studies; department of organization of scientific research; department for organizing the work of specialized academic councils. In close cooperation with specific educational scientific departments, the Institute unites centers, departments, scientific and educational laboratories, carries out scientific, educational and coordination work on the preparation of masters, doctoral students, advanced training of teaching and scientific-pedagogical workers, management of research work of departments and laboratories, included in its composition.

Director - Hero of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine, Professor Anatoly Timofeevich Avdievsky. Specialists are trained in the following specialties: musical art and choreography. In the future, the Institute plans to begin opening new specializations, namely: organizer-psychologist of musical leisure for youth, sound engineer-specialist in musical acoustics, music editor of children's and youth programs on radio and television, sound engineer, accompanist, concert performer, vocalist (soloist) , performer of pop and folk songs, arranger, music manager, organizer of musical educational work, etc.

Director - Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Ivanovich Bondar. The Institute trains specialists in the following specialties: practical psychology, human health, fine arts and elementary education. For students there is a choir, a literary studio, workshops in painting, sculpture, decorative and applied arts, a museum of the history of fine arts, and a permanent exhibition of student art works.
Institute for retraining and advanced training of teaching staff
Director - Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor Vladimir Nikolaevich Isaenko. The institute was created in June 2008 with the aim of improving the process of retraining and advanced training in all specialties for which specialists are trained at the university. This unit became the successor to the Faculty of Advanced Studies, which had existed at the university since 1974. The Institute provides professional retraining in 11 specialties, and also provides the opportunity to obtain a second higher education. Now there are about 1000 students studying there.

Director - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences, Professor Vitaly Petrovich Pokas. Natural sciences were studied at the university from the beginning of its work as a Pedagogical Institute (1834). Intensive training of teachers of chemistry, biology and geography began in the 20s of the last century. In 1933, biological and geographical departments were opened, which were subsequently reorganized into biological-chemical and geographical faculties. Holistic training of political scientists and lawyers began at the university in 1992 within the structure of the newly formed Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. Before this, it was carried out as part of a specialization at the Faculty of History. Director - Candidate of Pedagogical Sciences Zagarnitskaya Irina Ivanovna. The training of preschool specialists at the university dates back to the Frebel Women's Institute, where I. Sikorsky, S. Rusova, V. Frolov, V. Zenkovsky worked, which in 1920 became part of the Institute of Public Education. When training educators on the basis of the department of pedagogy of preschool education of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, future specialists listened to lectures by M. Leshchenko, O. The study of sociology began at the university in the mid-90s of the 20th century. As an academic subject, it was formed at the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. The origins of evening education at the university go back to the 60s of the 20th century, when a department of evening education was formed on the basis of the Faculty of Education. As a special educational institution for training specialists to work in the teaching rank, NPU named after Drahomanov began its history in 1834 as a structural unit of the University of St. Vladimir. Nowadays it is a recognized leader in pedagogical education in Ukraine, widely known and respected in the educational space of Europe and the world.
The university structure includes 20 institutes, 105 departments, 35 educational centers for pre-university training of students and numerous branches abroad and in our state. The university has a full range of pedagogical specialties and trains specialists in one hundred areas at the educational and qualification levels “bachelor”, “specialist” and “master”. The educational process is based on the latest achievements of science, social and pedagogical practice.
The leadership status of the university is ensured by about 1,500 teaching staff, including almost 280 doctors of science, professors, 650 candidates of science, associate professors, 35 academicians of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and industry academies, 65 honored workers of science and technology, 18 people's and 10 honored artists of Ukraine. Honorary doctors and professors of the university are ex-presidents of Ukraine Leonid Kravchuk, Viktor Yushchenko, President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine B. Every year, NPU scientists develop about 520-530 scientific topics that are closely related to the problems of higher and secondary education. The structure of the university includes dozens of research centers, laboratories, groups, about 200 scientific circles and 530 problem groups are actively functioning.
Over the 175 years of its existence, the M. Drahomanov National Pedagogical University has become a recognized center of international educational and scientific relations. An extensive system of cooperation has been established with leading educational institutions from more than 50 countries, and cooperation with foreign partners is being actively developed within the framework of more than 80 relevant agreements. Today, foreign students from 26 countries study at the university.
The university is a powerful center for the physical, artistic and aesthetic education of young people. University teams are winners of all-Ukrainian and international Olympiads and tournaments. The university is proud of its song and theater groups: the People's Men's Chapel "Cranes", the People's Choir "Barvinok", the People's Women's Chapel "Lybid", the ensemble folk song“Golden Perevelo”, vocal ensemble “Kupava”, pop vocal ensemble “Malvy”, theater “Babylon”, theater-studio “Most”, ballroom dance studio and others.

When training educators on the basis of the department of pedagogy of preschool education of the Institute of Pedagogy and Psychology, future specialists listened to lectures by M. Leshchenko, O. Gribanova, Z. Borisova and others. In 2007, this department was reorganized into the Institute of Child Development, as a structural educational and scientific unit NPU named after M.P. Drahomanov and has the goal of improving the scientific and human resources potential of the preschool education system and socio-cultural activities in the field of childhood in Ukraine, as well as ensuring a high-quality level of training of specialists for this industry. The Institute has three departments: theory and history of preschool education, management and innovative technologies of preschool education and children's creativity.
Faculty of Sociology, Psychology and Management
Director - Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Evtukh Vladimir Borisovich. The study of sociology began at the university in the mid-90s of the 20th century. As an academic subject, it was formed at the Department of Political Science and Sociology of the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities. In 2007, the Institute of Sociology, Psychology and Management was created at the university, where specialists are trained in the following areas and specialties: sociology, psychology, organizational management, administrative management, educational institution management, higher education pedagogy, etc. The structure of the Institute includes the following departments: theories and methodology of sociology, theoretical and counseling psychology, management and European integration, history of educational systems and technologies and practical psychology and psychotherapy.
Institute of Social Work and Management
Director - Doctor of Philosophy, Professor Yaroshenko Alla Aleksandrovna. The Institute has four departments: social pedagogy, theory and technology of social work, industrial psychology and management psychology, social and legal protection of the population. To help teachers and students, a scientific and methodological resource center has been created, laboratories for “Innovative technologies of social and socio-pedagogical work” and “Social psychology of personality” have been opened, a Volunteer School is constantly operating, within which there is a Center for training and retraining of volunteers, a Training Center for students other universities, parents, class teachers and the student debate club.
Faculty of Ukrainian Philology
Director - Candidate of Philological Sciences Anatoly Vasilievich Vysotsky. The training of teachers of Ukrainian language and literature began at the university in the 20s of the 20th century. The Institute has been operating as an independent educational unit since 2003. Specialists are trained in the following areas and specialties: philology, publishing, Ukrainian language and literature, publishing and editing.
Institute of Physical Education and Sports
Director - Doctor of Pedagogical Sciences, Associate Professor Alexey Valerievich Timoshenko. Training at the Institute is carried out in the following areas: physical education (football, tourism, practical psychology), human health (adaptive physical education, fitness), sports (management, security). In 1985, to improve the quality of the educational process, a new educational and sports building with a total area of 8,400 square meters was put into operation. G.
Institute of Physics and Mathematics
Director - Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, Professor Nikolai Viktorovich Pratsovity. The training of mathematics and physics teachers has been carried out since the founding of the educational institution, first at the school faculty, then at the faculty of social education. The Faculty of Physics and Mathematics was created as a structural unit in 1934-1935, and as a separate Institute in 2006.
Faculty of Philosophical Education and Science
Director - Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor Drobot Ivan Ivanovich. Philosophical training of teaching staff has been carried out since the founding of the Pedagogical Institute within the structure of the University of St. Vladimir. It was provided by a number of philosophical departments, in which outstanding scientists and teachers worked, in particular, O. Novitsky and others. In the second half of the 20th century, the department of philosophy of the Pedagogical Institute, and subsequently the university, was headed by Professor O. Pavelko, and later by Professor G. Volynka. The Institute was established as an independent department of the university in 2004. Its structure includes eight departments that train specialists in the following areas: “philosophy”, “cultural studies”, “design”, “advertising and public relations”.
Evening faculty
Dean - Candidate of Psychological Sciences, Associate Professor Lyudmila Nikolaevna Shiryaeva. The origins of evening education at the university go back to the 60s of the 20th century, when a department of evening education was formed on the basis of the Faculty of Education. Since 1984, the evening faculty has functioned as an independent administrative unit. It was opened in connection with the urgent need for highly qualified teaching staff in preschool education, primary education and Ukrainian philology.
